I love to paint outside, as often as is possible in New England. I'm drawn to the coastal scenes around me on the south coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, but find there is something wonderful to be seen nearly everywhere I go. When the weather doesn't cooperate, I paint from still life set-ups or remembered landscapes in my studio. The pursuit of Beauty has at times been frustrating, gratifying, perplexing, and life-saving.
These days I paint primarily in watercolor and gouache. I came to fine art painting after 40 years spent in related design fields: textile design, graphic design, and, since nearly the advent of the internet, website design. I still spend many hours marveling at the magic of pixels. But I have wanted be a fine art painter since I was twelve. And so I consider myself blessed to have spent the last decade studying with many wonderful painting teachers, including Daniel Marshall, Bill Lane, Sam Allerton Green, Judy Vilmain, and Michael Lyons. Over the years I've attended in-person or online workshops with artists Gary Tucker, Anne Wert, Marcelo Daldoce, Uma Kelkar, Michael Reardon, Marc Folly, Amy Bartlett Wright, Jonathan McPhillips, Jossy Lownes, and Alison Nicholls.
Since 2022 I have exhibited at the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, the Portsmouth Arts Guild, and in August, 2025, a two-woman show at the Graham Gallery in Bristol, RI. In both 2024 and 2025 my plein air paintings won the Spirit of Cuttyhunk award at the Cuttyhunk Plein Air Festival, and in 2025 my plein air painting Sachuest Point won 3rd place in the Rhode Island Watercolor Society's "Natural Wonders" national juried show.
